Our school overlooks forests, mountains and the beautiful Lac Léman and is within an hour of the stunning Swiss Alps. The International School of Lausanne is a not-for-profit, English-language day school that emphasizes academic excellence and rigour, in a supportive family environment. It prepares students for a global education and entrance to the best universities in the world.
At present, over 880 students are enrolled with many parents working in international companies in Lausanne or along the Swiss Riviera.
The precise location of the school is in the small town of Le Mont-sur-Lausanne on the northern edge of Lausanne. We have served the local and international community since 1962. Currently, our wonderful campus, opened in 2005, offers modern, high quality facilities for students, teachers and staff. The attractive building is fully equipped and the grounds include an astroturf football field, a multi-sports arena, playgrounds and a landscaped garden. The School has a triple sports hall but also uses local swimming pools and, of course, the mountains, for the skiing programme.
The school comprises the Primary School (ages 3-10), including the Early Childhood Centre; and the Secondary School, made up of the Middle and High Schools (ages 11-13 and 14-18 respectively). The senior leadership team consists of the Director, the Primary School Principal and the Secondary School Principal. There are also two principals who are responsible for the Middle School and the High School sections of the Secondary School.
Throughout the school, our curriculum and educational strategies are drawn from the best practices from around the world. In the Primary School, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) is in place and, in Years 7 to 11, the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) curriculum is followed. Students in Years 12 and 13 (Grades 11 and 12) follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The students' results, in the IBDP, range from very good to excellent.
With a focus on active learning, open inquiry, critical and creative thinking, and independence of thought, our small class sizes allow the personal interaction necessary for effective learning. We aim to provide opportunities for every student to be successful, while encouraging personal and collective responsibility. Here at ISL, relationships come first. Through our homeroom and pastoral care programme, we work hard to ensure that each student feels valued as an individual and connected to the diverse and exciting social and cultural environment of our international student body.
We offer our students a rich extra-curricular programme, with over 120 different offerings, encouraging students to develop their interests and talents and discover new ones from a wide range of activities in sports, performing arts, technology and other curriculum-related areas.
A School Board of 8 to 12 members governs the school. The Board sets general policies and budgetary limits within which the Director operates the school.
ISL is an IB world school, accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
The school is also a member of the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS). |
